Canoeing & Kayaking

Sit in a paddle boat and let the scenery pass by. A stroke of the paddle with every breath. The journey is the reward. There's no wonder that this kind of active holiday is getting more and more popular.

The river valleys, formed by the Ice Age, known now as Peene, Tollense, Trebel, Oder, Uecker, Recknitz and the Peenestrom offer perfect conditions for a holiday in a canoe. These rivers have hardly changed in hundreds of years, having been formed more than 10,000 years ago. White-tailed eagles, great white egrets, beavers and otters live here in populations, unknown elsewhere in Western Europe. This leaves you with a good chance to see one or more of these rare animals on a canoe holiday.

If you are in need of any help, our local guides will be pleased to take you on an evening Peene Safari or on a birdwatching tour at the break of day. The Peene is best-suited for the beginners. The biggest river in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has no barrages or rapids. Instead, the river offers a different curiosity: if the wind is easterly, the river can flow uphill!
